coffee liqueur by kira
for the holidays i made friends and family coffee liqueur from our coffee beans. i highly recommend this recipe to keep you warm through the winter months.

you will need:
2 cups of water
4 cups of sugar
1/2 lb of whole coffee beans
pinch of salt
3 tablespoons of vanilla extract
(or whole vanilla bean)
2 1/2 cups of vodka
large glass jar
step one:
steep coffee and vanilla for one month in a large glass jar covered with cheese cloth.
step two:
drain vodka (throw out the beans)
combine coffee, water, sugar and salt in a saucepan
bring to a boil over medium heat
reduce heat and let simmer for an hour
remember to stir occasionally to prevent burning
let cool and pour into a large glass bottle w/ cap
add vanilla and seal
store in a dark place for a month (or up to a year) and shake once every few days
step three:
decant into smaller bottles and give to pals or drink it yourself!
p.s. this coffee liqueur makes a yummy white russian...ice cubes, 1 1/2 shots of vodka ( i like vanilla stoli), 3/4 of a shot of coffee liqueur and a 1/2 shot of sweet cream (i like to use soy creamer)

I think there's a typo -- step one should probably be vodka, not vanilla!

So should step two not say "add vanilla," since it's done in step one?

i added a vanilla bean in step one and vanilla extract in step two.
